I am currently enrolled in the diploma in public relations given by the University of Victoria Continuing Studies starting January 2012. I am excited to expand my knowledge of PR and communication and to learn skills and practices that will make me more useful in a communication or PR position for any organization. Join that to my first class writing and research skills, and you have an awesome communicator ready to work for you!
I have a master’s degree in English from the University of Victoria, obtained in August 2010. I chose the thesis option. This final, 100-page project concerned the relationship between the text and the illustrations of George Eliot’s Romola as they discussed the history of art.
During my graduate studies I have developed excellent research and writing skills. I have also taken a pedagogy course for teaching writing and literature at the post-secondary level.
I took my bachelor’s degree at Concordia University in Montréal with an honours in English and a minor in Western Society and Culture. I was on the Dean’s Honor list for the three years of my studies there and I was invited to the Golden Key society for three years in a row as well.
I took most of my classes in literature but I also have classes in philosophy and political theory from the Antiquity to today, as well as language courses and a full-year course in the history of art.
In 2010-2011 I started a doctoral degree in English at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, which I withdrew from because of the current academic job market. I finished my coursework, which included a translation theory course and a composition and rhetoric theory course as well.
I also have an undergraduate certificate (10 courses) in Social Sciences from the Université du Québec à Montréal. I’ve taken courses in contemporary religious phenomena, the philosophy of language, political science and I’ve undertaken research in the importance of community-based broadcast radio stations.
My education has developed and honed my love of writing and research. I have a curious mind capable of imbibing all kinds of new information. I am excellent at summarizing, analyzing and drawing conclusions about a variety of topics based on extensive and thorough research.
I’ve explained in more detail why hiring someone with a graduate degree in the humanities can be useful to your organization.
